Arch Cabinet
Copper from the roof of Canada’s Parliament is used to create the pattern that flows across the front of this cabinet.
The reclaimed copper was layered in dark and light tones to make a pattern of overlapping arches. The semi-circular shapes are reference to the round arches throughout the Spanish Revival residence that will house this piece. Where the semicircles intersect a Gothic arch is formed, a nod to the Parliament buildings in Ottawa.
The patina tones are all as-found: the colours were not modified in any way.
The sleek case and base are ash with a black lacquer finish. Round detailing on the legs and cabinet edges echo the curving lines of the facade pattern.
